The Casio PhoneMate SI-460 Four-Line Phone

In the past when it came to Four Line Phones, there was not much choice out there; whether you were looking for just one phone or a complete system with Voice Mail.  The good new is: Times they are a changing!  Some old familiar names are answering the call to expand the offerings in the area of SOHO phone systems.  Both Casio PhoneMate and Brother International have now entered the game.

So, who is the winner? You the consumer.  Your choices have never been better…both in selection and dollar value.  That said, let’s ring up the Casio and see how it performs.

The first thing to know, in order to get the most out of the phones when using multiple units, is that line one needs to be the same (connected to the same phone number) on all the units.  That said, you can then mix and match the rest of the lines.  This lets the units have a line that is private to each of them.  For example, if you have 3 people in your office all with their own “private line” and in addition, you have three common lines, you can give every one the common lines, on say lines 1 through 3, then line 4 on each phone can be used for the private line.

I hope I’m not confusing you.  This system really is easy to use.  You just plug it in and go.  If you wish to map out a more technical phone system, the manual gives some great information and guidelines on this.

Calls on any phone can be sent back and forth to another phone.  You can also activate a “privacy” feature on your line if you do not wish to be disturbed.  Just like in those “big” phone systems, if you’re on the phone, and a call comes in on another line, there is no ringer noise to disrupt your call... just a friendly and quiet flashing red light.

The SI-460 not only has Voice Mail, but a complete built in Auto Attendant.  So, you can let the phone answer itself.  Callers can then listen to a menu of choices and enter their choice (like press one for sales, two for customer service... etc.).

If you like using a headset, then this is the phone for you!  Now get this.  It has a separate connection for the headset (I used a Plantronics Unit).  Now this lets you answer the phone by just hitting a button.  You don’t have to take the Handset on or off the hook.

Another feature I just love on this phone is the Volume Control.  Now, almost all phones have Volume Controls, but this is one smart phone.  Using just one control, you can set the volume for the speakerphone, the headset, and the handset, all at different levels, and the phone remembers them all.  No more playing with the volume just because you are on the speaker instead of the headset.  I love it!

I have no doubt that I’m starting to sound like I’ve never seen a phone before.  Going on and on about WOW this and WOW that, but WOW.  Check this out.  You know how you always get someone rattling off a phone number in a Voice Mail Message.  You know some speed freak telling to call him at ............. and try as you can, you can’t get the number because it goes by too fast.  No more.  This unit has variable speed play back.  Now you can put the brakes on those speed freaks.  Just play the message, and slow it down with no loss of sound quality!  Oh! and for those slow t-a-l-k-e-r-s  t-h-a-t J-u-s-t  t-a-k-e  f-o-r-e-v-e-r.  Hit the button and speed them up!

This is one loaded phone. With a retail price of only $249.00 for a four line full featured speakerphone with Voice Mail and Auto Attendant.  It’s hard to go wrong.  So, if you need a four-line phone do yourself a big favor and check this unit out!

And get this! They have a four-line Cordless unit to go with it for a suggested retail price of only $399.00 (look for an upcoming review on this unit).

Now I only have one WOW left.  And that’s the WOW in the WOW Award.  This phone really deserves it. WOW features at a WOW Price!
