Here in the United States Smart Cards are almost non-existent. In Europe Smart Cards are everywhere. It is getting to the point that ATM and Credit cards are being totally replaced by Smart Cards.... So why no Smart Cards in the United States?
The popular belief is that the companies that would be the major players in the manufacturing, marketing, and use of these cards in the United States are waiting for the Trademark and Patent rights to lapse so that they can use the technology for less cost. In about another 2 years we will know for sure, as that is when the rights run out.

In England, Motorola and Barclays’ bank are test-marketing a Smart Card, Cell phone that lets you place your Smart Card into a Motorola Star TAC phone and recharge the card using your cell phone.
O.K. But What About Dumb People
Most Cell Phone service providers have a service they call Find or Locate. You call them and they give you the location and directions to the business or place your looking for. The service is usually free. You just pay for the "Air" time.
I recently used my local service. All I can say is my phone may be smart, but the people helping me.... That’s a totally different matter...
You see, I was on my way to a sporting event when I realized, as I had never seen this team play, I did not know where in there city they played, so I called my local "Find" service on my cell phone. I spent the next hour and a half getting totally lost.... I followed all their instructions to the letter. And after wandering around wasting time and gas, I got to the place they told me to go to..... But they sent me to the wrong place... It turns out the people (I talked to about three of them) that were helping me did not really know where this team played, so instead of looking up the information, they just took a guess at it...
Like I said, Smart phone, dumb people....
