Can I Help You Out....
Or, Is Your Sales Force Showing People The Door Instead Of The Goods..

Can you imagine walking into a store with the store’s ad in one hand and cash in the other ready to buy, and after only ten minutes getting so feed up with the sales person, that you just say "I give up" and you walk out the door?

Last month I went shopping with some Newlyweds. As such they had that big chuck of Wedding Cash, and a Home to set up. Their first and only planned stop was to go to Sears.

In we walk to Sears. Newspaper ad in one hand, envelope full of cash in the other. Standing in the major appliance section the first challenge of the day was not feeling guilty for making the Sales People stop chatting with each other, and have one of them help us.

Next challenge, putting up with a sales person that knew nothing. Now this was not some wet-behind-the-ears kid. This guy looked like he had been working there a long time. Perhaps to long...

We had a copy of the store’s ad with us. He had no copy of the ad, and could not find one. Every time we showed him something in the ad and asked a question about color choice or delivery, etc. off he would go to check on it. Then when we told him we thought the answer was wrong, back he would go, finally returning with the right answer.

Undaunted and still ready to buy, the decision was made to tell the guy, lets do it. About $1,000.00 in major appliances was about to go out the door. Or so we thought.

This guy starts to explain (all the time sounding like complaining) "I don’t have that in stock, but I have the other one". Soooooooooooooooooo? "I have to order the other one. We don’t deliver this some other company does."... And on and on. When he got to the part of having to "Ring-Up" the sale on different receipts because, that’s they way they do it, it was the last straw...

This Newlywed couple decided, to go to another store where they would feel welcomed, and not like they were bugging the sales person....

And their $1,000.00 walked out the door. Oh, the sales person? , When last seen he was back talking with his buddies.... After all, why waste time learning about what you sell when for some unknown reason most people seem to come in, ask a lot of questions, waste your time and walk out of the store.
