When it comes to using a Cell Phone when driving your car, I say Stick It In Your Ear! If you don’t have a hands free unit for your Cell Phone, please do everyone a big favor and get an in or on the ear headset unit for your phone. I truly am not kidding when I say, for a small cost these units can save lives. The sad fact is that some people just can’t drive safely and hold on to their phones at the same time. So even if you’re not one of these people, why take the chance. I personally prefer the on the ear or in the ear units. Of the two, I like the on the ear the most. To me, headset units that use a headband feel like my head is being squeezed. The in the ear units feel like someone is sticking something in my ear. I don’t like it. But the over the ear units, as Goldielocks would say, are just right. Very comfortable, and easy to wear for hours. I have used on the ear units from GN Netcom and Plantronics. Both units convert to on the ear or Headband usage. The GN Netcom unit has a flexible microphone. The Plantronics has a fixed microphone. Both units use noise canceling microphones. Now for a picture of things to come. Kenwood makes a unit called the VC-H1. It is an interesting digital camera and LCD screen that can attach to a wide variety of FM VHF/UHF transceivers. The unit let you send and receive pictures using two way radios. Now the most obvious thing is that this unit can be a life saver to emergency response units. Imagine being able to send a picture from on scene to the emergency doctor! Other emergency agencies are finding great uses for these units. When we at BizNet OnLine Magazine played with the units, we found them very easy to use. I was very impressed with how fast the images transferred from one unit to the other over the radio.

More than being impressed, it got me thinking.... to use these, the sender needs a unit and the receiver needs a unit. Both attached to a radio. But, boy can I think of some great uses.

Ever try to explain in words what something looks like. Hey! Just send a picture. In the field send a picture. Now the other person can see for himself or herself. The uses are endless.

But more than that, it is a sign of things to come. In the future someone will adapt this technology to be used with and connect to your Cell Phone. Now that is even more exciting. Do I really need to give examples! Come on, think about all the times it would be great to just show someone something rather than talk about it.
