The Computer Telephony show for 1999 is here in Los Angeles this month. So I am being flooded with E-Mail press releases. As I get ready to write this month's article I am looking at a press release from Casio-PhoneMate. If you have ever shopped for a home phone or answering machine, you know the name. However, in the business world Casio has never been a contender.... until now.. Looks like Casio-PhoneMate is realizing something a lot of other players still have not gotten... that there is a huge market in the small business phone biz. Looking at the press release some good things are coming. Some great Cordless Phones (I can’t say more at this time or they will kill me). Multi Line phones (4 line 12 station) and more. I look forward to meeting with Casio PhoneMate and telling you more. Unfortunately there is little on their web site at this time. http://www.casiophonemate.com/
Now back to the Computer Telephony show for 1999 (http://www.ctexpo.com/). Over the years this show has just grown and grown. The first show I went to took only an hour or two to go through. This year it is going to be more like a day or two just to hit the exhibits. Every year the items for the SOHO market keep expanding. I look forward to reporting on the latest and greatest.
Now to switch gears and jump to Cell Phones. I started using a Cell Phone for business over ten years ago (in Cell Phone time that was the dark ages). I got my first personal phone about 8 years ago. Back then the rates were so high I mainly had and used the phone for emergencies and safety reasons. Now with phones for free, and rates so low, everybody is using them for everything. But one thing has not changed.
Cell Phones are still an important safety/emergency item. I believe every person should have one for EMERGENCY USE ONLY. Now I can tell you they don’t work every place and every time, no one can argue about the lives that have been saved. But a cell phone with a dead battery is no good to anyone.
Duracell makes a great line of high performance batteries called "Duracell Ultra". These are Alkaline batteries with a long use life and a long shelf life. So if you can use disposal batteries in your cell phone, they make a great emergency power supply. The only problem is how do you use these batteries in a phone that takes a "special" battery pack?
