Got Cell Phone? Need
Head Set? By the Hello Guy |
This was one of the hardest reviews I have ever written.
Why, because I keep going back and forth on the one I like the most.
And I guess that is what it comes down to on which one of these headsets
is the winner. It is a question of
what you like and what is important to you.
Both of these headsets are very compact in size and use
BlueTooth to connect to your cell phone
The Motorola is very interesting in that it folds in half.
The small “boom” that has the microphone on it folds over the part that goes
over your ear. When folded it is off. To
turn it on, you just open it. After
you open it, you can put it on your ear. Yes, I said on your ear.
This is one of those units that fit on the ear, not putting anything in
your ear. If you are like me, you
prefer this design, and find it more comfortable. I also like the fact that when I put it on, it turns on.
When I take it off and fold it, it’s off.
Also it can be worn on the left or right ear.
Volume up or down is controlled by buttons on the top or bottom of the
unit. Up on top, down on bottom.
To answer a call or disconnect you just push in the side of the unit.
Very easy and comfortable to use. And
that is what has me wanting to call this headset the winner!
But, lets look at the Step 1150. This unit is also small and compact. Most of the unit sits on the ear not in it.
There is a small ear part the just slightly goes into the ear.
But it is still very comfortable. This
unit is smaller then the Motorola (when the Motorola is in the open position).
The Step does not have a microphone boom on it.
The complete unit microphone and all is in the part that goes on your
ear. And the microphone is what sets this unit apart.
This unit is made by Step Communications a company that specializes in
sound clarity. As such the
microphone in this unit is designed to keep your speech clear and unaffected by
background noise. Including wind,
but more on that later.
The Step unit uses a “multifunction” control
switch/button that rocks back and forth and even pushes in to control all of the
functions. It is easy to use.
I like the controls on the Motorola a little more, but…. Lets get back
to what really makes the Step unit different, the microphone.
Simply put if you use your phone in a noisy environment, you will be
happier with the Step. Especially
if you do not want the folks you are talking to hearing what is going on around
you. The other big difference is wind nose. If you like having a car window open, or want to use this
unit will bike riding, or just on a windy day, again the choice is clearly the
Step unit.
Now my dilemma. Who
do I declare the winner? I like the
form and function of the Motorola more then the Step, But the Step does a better
job of keeping your voice clear and not letting wind and other noises interfere
with the call. So, lets try this:
For form and function we give the Motorola the Editors Choice
Award:
|
|
Editors Choice? Simply
put, we the Editors at BizNet OnLine Magazine, give the Editors Choice
Award to any product that we personally would choice use over the other
products in the same category. It
is what we consider to be the “Best Of The Best”. |
For Speech Clarity, we give the Step the WOW Award:
|
|
The WOW award came as somewhat of
a shock (To Us) because we took a look at a couple of products a few
years ago and said “WOW” what a product. This is the coolest thing
we had ever seen, one day everyone will have this product! And this has
come to pass for many of the products that we have given the WOW award
to. The product that gets the WOW award is a total of all of the awards
above, A-OK: works right out of the box; ON TARGET: Just what the
consumer needs, and is a total WINNER! |
