Before You Buy A New (Used) Car Or Truck…….

Great Web Sites To Know About!

By Mike Lipshultz

If you are thinking about getting a used car or truck and want to do some homework on the ones you are thinking about getting, then here is a list of web sites you need to know about.

I’ll start with Edmunds ( http://www.edmunds.com ).  This is a company much like Kelley Blue Book for finding out the going prices on different  vehicles.  However in my experience Edmunds is much more on target with real life pricing then Kelley Blue Book.

The next one I’ll talk about is MSN Auto (http://autos.msn.com/home/used_research.aspx ), at this site thy have a section for researching that car or truck you are thinking about.  This is a great place to see if your about to buy a vehicle with known issues.

As we are talking about “ratings”, next we will look at JD Powers web site http://www.jdpower.com/autos/car-ratings/ . This is a link to their ratings page.  Another great place to look before you leap.

Now unless you have been living under a rock, you must have heard about CARFAX.  Did you know they have a free “CARFAX Safety and Reliability Ratings” section you can access for free.  http://www.carfax.com/car_safety/ratings/SRR.cfm

The next advice I would give you, is simply to go to a good search site, such as Google, and type in the name of the Cr or Truck you are thinking about, followed by the word “Forum”.  This will help you find user forums for the year, make, and model you are thinking about.  Nothing like talking to folks that already on the car or tuck you are looking at.  Take time to read over the posts, etc.  And remember no matter how good or bad the car or truck you are thinking about really is, you will always find someone that hates it, or someone that loves it.  So, again, take the time to read the posts, topics, and responses.
