Jump Me Baby…. Yes, Jump Starting A Car, Can Kill You. So Lets Do It Right! |
By Mike Lipshultz
I know we have all heard that if you
jump start a car the wrong way it can be dangerous, but have you every really
seen someone get hurt from it!
Well I have.
I was walking back to my car when I saw a guy doing the jump start thing,
and he was doing it all wrong (yes, there is a right way). I stopped and attempted to offer my help.
I explained he was making a mistake, and was going to get hurt, but I
would be happy to help him. He told me, to $#@^% off, that he was not stupid and any
moron could jump start a car.
With that I backed off to a safe
distance. And BOOM, the battery in
the car he was jumping exploded just as he connected the last jumper to it.
I called 911, for the guy, and went back
to offer first aid, and to try to get him to take his shirt off (it was now wet
with battery acid) and to walk over to a hose to get the acid washed off.
Again this guy told me to %$^#@ off, he did not need my help.
So I walked back to my car, as I got to my car I heard him start to
scream as he was now feeling that acid on his skin.
Good thing the paramedics I called where arriving.
So, please don’t think you know it
all, jump starting a car is simple, but it still needs to be done right. And part of doing it right is to make sure you always have
your own jumper cables. They should
be at least 12 feet long and 4 to 6 gage. Trust
me. Jumper cables are a great
investment, and you only need to buy a good pair once.
Now on how to jump start a car. I’m going to make it real easy and link you to some simple
to follow instructions and a video or two.
