How Do You Feel
About Guns! An Editorial By Mike Lipshultz |
![]() |
Nothing like talking
about Guns to get the emotions going.
You Can Have My Gun When
You Pry It From My Cold Dead Hands……
Guns Kill People!
When You Outlaw Guns Only
Outlaws Will Have Guns!
For over a year I have been wanting to
write this Editorial. One that was
without emotions, just facts. One
that was not Anti-Gun, or Pro-Gun. One
that just gave facts and let the reader decide.
But the facts are, that if you really look at the facts, an article is
going to come out pro-gun, not anti-gun. Yes,
guns are involved in murder, and contribute to people dieing. But not to the degree that most Anti-Gun groups would want
you to think. In reality, gun
control is an emotional issue, not a logical one.
So, if I have been putting off writing this for a year plus, why now?
Well, because I just really hate stupid people saying stupid things, and
Mayor Richard Daley, just pissed me off, with yet another anti gun remark, with
no bases in the realty of what happened!
For the record, I am a gun owner. As a gun owner, I am obviously Pro-Gun. But more then that I am Pro-Rights. And I ask that after reading this article, wither you end up
Pro or Anti Gun, you respect a persons rights to have their own personal
opinion. On forming that opinion, I
ask that you do your best to leave your emotions out of it, and deal with
reality.
Reality what a concept.
Anti gun folks will be happy to point
out the reality that Gun Related deaths are one of the top causes of death in
the United States. And this is
true, but lets look at the facts behind that statement.
First the word related. This
means a firearm was involved in the death.
It has nothing to do with if Guns are good or bad.
Or if a gun killed someone instead of the mentally ill (or criminal, or
stupid person) person using it. Or if the death would not have accrued if the
firearm was not available. For
example, on a suicide. Yes, people
kill themselves with Firearms. But
do you really believe that if there was no firearm, all those people would still
be alive? Or even most of them?
O.K., I’ll agree that a small few may still be alive, if there were no
Guns around. But do you ban Guns
because of the actions of a few? If
your answer is yes, then we also by the same logic need to ban all poisons, all
ropes, cords etc., (hangings), all knives, and every thing ells that folks use
to kill themselves and others.
Should I even get started on motor
vehicles? I hope you don’t think
the numbers of folks killed accidentally by Motor Vehicles comes close to
Firearms related deaths? Or the
number of people killed by motor vehicles, connected to a person braking the
law! But we don’t talk about
banning motor vehicles. And yes,
motor vehicles have even been used in mass murder.
I hope you are starting to think about the point I am trying to make.
Take some time to look over the Nation Center For Diseases Control and Prevention, and their Center For Injury Protection.
Lets look at the leading causes of death:
http://webapp.cdc.gov/cgi-bin/broker.exe
You will see that “Unintentional
Injury” is a big killer. So what
is that? Lets take a look http://webapp.cdc.gov/cgi-bin/broker.exe?_service=v8prod&_server=app-v-ehip-wisq.cdc.gov&_port=5081&_sessionid=rtvRwrdRL52&_program=wisqars.details10.sas&_service=&type=U&prtfmt=STANDARD&age1=35&age2=44&agegp=35-44&deaths=17534&_debug=0&lcdfmt=lcd1ageðnicty=0&ranking=10&deathtle=Death
You will see that Firearms related
deaths are only 0.4 percent of those deaths.
If you want to save lives, look at Poisoning 43%.
Or Motor Vehicles Over 36%. More
people drown (almost 3%), then die from Firearms.
In fact 3.6% died from simply falling.
1.8% die from fire burns, but no one is banning lighters!
Now I have no problem with folks that
support Firearms ownership simply because they like them.
Just as I have no issue with folks that don’t like Firearms or support
them simply because they do not like them.
However, simply because you do or do not like something is no reason to
fight to ban something.
And please don’t get on a Soap box and
argue that Guns Kill People! Remember,
I asked you to deal with this in the realm of reality.
So, yes Firearms do contribute to the death of humans.
But in reality it is a small percentage of deaths.
Remember, 9 times more people die from falling then from Firearms related
deaths. Falling!
As in I have fallen and can’t get up.
So, why the big “push” to ban guns.
etc….. Because it is an emotional
based argument, not a reality based one. It
is also a politically based fight. It
has nothing to do with reality. Because
reality shows that under the current controls, Firearms are not the big of a
cause of death that some people think they are.
Need more logical information? Jackie Mason has a great video on gun control. Yes, comedian Jackie Mason. Check it out.

Don’t think that emotions, nonsense,
and nonsensical thinking come into play on the Gun Control issue? Would anyone be so ridicules to blame the Fort Hood Shooting,
on America’s Love Of Guns? I
mean, we all can agree, that this is a military base, that Hasan (the shooter)
was enlisted in the military and was not a civilian. That even if guns were
banned from civilians, that Military personal would still have access to them…
Right… I mean no one would really
claim, that Hasan was not to blame, that they would not talk about how mentally
disturbed he was… Etc,… But really blame America’s Love Affair with
guns…
“America Loves Guns….” Mayor
Richard Daley November 10th, 2009, in response to the Fort Hood
Shooting. Or is Mayor Daley right.
Should guns be banned from both Civilian and Military? I hope you recognize sarcasm.
In case you don’t.
America loves fast food.
And we all know that the stuff is killing people, lets ban it!
Lets see, Drugs kill people. Even over the counter drugs are missed used and kill people.
Lets ban them! If you think I’m being silly remember that 43% for
“Poisoning”. That would include
poisoning from taking to much over the counter drugs.
So wither you are Pro-Gun or Anti-Gun,
either use logic and reality to support your feelings, or at least be willing to
admit it is just the way you feel about it.
And as we all know reality often has nothing to do with feelings.
Just look at the way some people act because of their feelings on
religion, or politics. They feel
they are right, and will not accept any other view point or opinion.
So, if we can believe in freedom of religion, why can’t we believe in the freedom to bare arms. Or are you going to tell me religion never killed anyone?
