Public Relations,
What Not To Do!
By Tyler Harwood
Hay!, Are you in
Media Relations? Are you trying to get us (or anyone) to pay attention to your
Press Releases?
Or have you hired someone to do P.R. for you? |
 |
Well in either case here are a few
simple rules to follow if you want to stand a chance of succeeding!
Oh, and for the record, if after reading this you think, come on! Who
would do this stuff, well It happens every day, and this is not the first time
we have tried to get so called professionals to know how to do their job!
O.K., here goes, Never Ever Do Any Of
The Following:
- Send
an email in a type so small no one wants to read it!
Use a Font size no less then 10.
12 is even better. If we
have to work at reading it, guess what we are going to do? Delete it!
- When
sending out an email, use a blind mailing list or send it as a BC (Blind
Copy). No one wants to find out
you sent out an email giving everyone, everyone else’s email address.
- Don’t
send out an Email Press Release that just states “See attached” and
attach a file to it. Especially
anything other then a PDF document. What?.
You’ve never head of computer viruses?
- Send
out an Email you never sent yourself first. Yes, sometimes they don’t come out looking they way
you thought they would. If your
Email looks bad, why should we read it?
- Start
out by saying your very fond of our Magazine Bitsnuts.
It is BizNet. When you get it wrong, you loose!
- Put
bad links and bad phone numbers in your Press Release.
Read it before you send it. Test
it before you send it.
- Ramble
on and on and not getting to the point and focus of the Email.
Gee, we are not going to read more then a line or two to find out
what it is about. And if we can’t get the information fast, yep… We
delete it!
O.K., now once again you know. Help us to help you. Be
professional in your Press Releases.
