Anyone Know Who I Can Report
The Better Business Bureau To…

We all get those annoying telemarketing phone calls.  Some are more annoying then others.  The ones I personally hate are when the caller just will not be straightforward and tell you it’s a sales call.  They play games to try to get the “right” person on the line.  They don’t care if they waste time etc… all they want to do is shove their call down your throat.

If you received a call that started out with “ Hi, this is the Better Business Bureau Calling.  We need to speak to the Manager or President.  It is very important that we talk to them as soon as possible.” I bet you would put the call through.  Hey, everyone wants to cooperate with the Better Business Bureau.  Imagine the reaction of your boss when you tell him the BBB is on the line about a problem, and it turns out that they are just soliciting membership!

I truly believe that anyone getting the above call would believe it was about a complaint.  I know I did the first time I got the exact call.  But after that I got wise.  I have had the BBB call several times since then.  Pulling the same stunt.  But now around here we ask, “why are you calling?”  We never get an answer just a lot of dancing, until the boss comes on.  Then the sales pitch starts.

The Better Business Bureau should be ashamed of themselves.  They are taking advantage of their good reputation to deceive people to take their calls.  Their local telemarketers are pissing off a lot of people.  Considering that the BBB is supposed to represent the highest of standards, it is a shame that in this area (Los Angeles, California), their local office is not practicing those standards.  Hey!, If membership in the BBB is so valuable, why do anything that looks like game playing?

So, who do you report the BBB to?  All I can say is that I called the national headquarters about this issue.  They claim to be concerned and are looking into it.  Time will tell.
