Office Emergencies #1
Written by: Chris Lundie

What should you do if someone around you suddenly falls down and becomes unconscious?

The first thing that you should do is to call 911, then make sure that the area around the victim is safe from hazardous objects that could harm you if you try to help them.  Once you have determined that the scene is safe you should check to see if the victim is breathing.  The way you check is as follows:  Turn the victim so that they are face up, Put your ear about an inch away from their mouth and look towards their chest, stay in this position for about 15 seconds, if they are breathing then you should stay in that monitoring position until more advanced medical personnel take over, if the victim is not breathing you should attempt to give the victim breaths.  This will be explained next month.
